The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible Wants To Make The Camaro ZL1 Its Topless Bitch
Ford plans to unveil its 2013 Shelby GT 500 convertible that boasts significantly more power than the outgoing model today at the Chicago Auto Show 2012.
The 2013 Shelby GT 500 has a 5.8-liter, V8 engine that produces 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.
That’s about 100 horsepower more than the outgoing Shelby GT 500, which has a 5.4-liter, V8 engine that produces 550 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque.
The updated Shelby GT 500’s engine includes a new supercharger, cross-drilled block and heads, updated camshaft profiles, a new carbon fiber driveshaft and upgraded clutch, transmission and axle.
The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500, which is at the upper end of Ford’s Mustang lineup, will be built at Ford’s AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock. Ford did not release pricing for the new Shelby GT 500 convertible. The outgoing version starts at $53,810.
Ford also is using the introduction of the Ford Shelby GT500 today to mark the 20th anniversary of its Special Vehicle Team. The Dearborn automaker launched its Special Vehicle Team at the 1992 Chicago Auto Show with the unveiling of the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra and SVT F-150 Lightning.
