Chicago Weather : Angels weather Cubs’ storm

CHICAGO — The Angels certainly know how to make themselves to home.

Playing the franchise’s first game ever at Wrigley Field, the Angels bunted and bombed the Chicago Cubs into a five-run hole then held on against the elements and their own shaky bullpen for a 7-6 victory Friday afternoon.
The opener of a three-game interleague series on Chicago’s North Side was the Angels’ 12th victory in 15 road games spanning six cities over the past three weeks and 15th in their past 20 games away from home.

College World Series 2010 Baseball

College World Series 2010

College World Series 2010

There has always been a fierce rivalry going on between UCLA and Fullerton. Well in the end UCLA took the lead and won the match that took them to the College World Series. The match was very exciting because both teams had many opportunities to avail in order to grab the win but UCLA turned out to be the one that took full advantage of every little edge that they encountered against their rivals. UCLA exploited many weaknesses of the opposite team as well. This took them closer to the victory and this way the match turned out to be a dream-come true for the team. Fullerton on the other hand did have many opportunities to turn things around for themselves but didn’t seem to use them or recognize them very well.

Red Sox win, but lose Matsuzaka

Two innings into the game, Daniel Nava, who a few short years ago was laundering jerseys for the University of Santa Clara baseball team that had cut him, took Philadelphia Phillies starter Joe Blanton to the cleaners with a grand slam on the first major league pitch he saw.
That was the good news in a bittersweet day of baseball yesterday at Fenway.

Before the game, the Sox lost Daisuke Matsuzaka to a forearm strain while he was warming up in the bullpen, forcing Scott Atchison into an emergency start. Earlier, the team received news of the death of Felix Maldonado, one of the most beloved instructors in the organization, who succumbed to cancer at 72.

The debut of Stephen Strasburg will help at least one good cause. To benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mid-Atlantic, Nikco Sports will offer 2,010 framed photos of Strasburg’s first pitch with a unique touch. Someone is going to gather dirt from the pitcher’s mound and insert it into the frame’s double matting. There will also be a replica card from the day he was drafted placed to the side of the photo.
